“The internet is
getting a pretty
crowded place, and
its users will only
continue to bulge in
number for every second that passes
by” - this is the
mindset that prompted me to take that leap of faith
and made me jump into the industry of internet marketing. And the fact that you’re reading this article, that means that you’ve already taken that
leap as well or you are about to (once you’ve
passed that period of indecisiveness; give or take a
few more motivations).
Heed my warning first before you do, trust me when I tell you that the truth which is the spontaneous growth of the internet is inevitable not only works for our advantage but it also affects us adversely as well. Think about it. When you’re strolling along a marketplace since you’re trying to look for a purchase what usually is taking your time? Is it because you can’t find what you’re looking for or is it there are just too many options to choose from that it’s often difficult to make up mind? This happens every so often that we cannot exactly tell anymore what which of the two reasoning is true for us.
Believe it or not though both are applicable on what the landscape is on the internet nowadays. Firstly, there are thousands of websites being published each day that it has now achieved a staggering number making it harder for people to find what they want. Why do you think Google has been so been busy rolling out updates to their search engine’s algorithm this past year? – Exactly my point! They are trying hard to bring back relevant search again, which is a very tough job indeed, and there is no way yet to tell if they will succeed. Secondly, when the search result does bring up what we are looking for, it often list one too many options that we had hoped for which starts the confusion part of search. Hence it takes time and time is something that’s being taken away from us as time goes by.
When you are trying to promote something, how does one go about combating these effects? Like how successful online entrepreneurs these days do it – through social media and social networking sites like Twitter. I’ve once read an article somewhere that we’ve now entered the era where we don’t look for news anymore; it now is delivered to us, to our news feed, our timelines and social networking profiles. If you’re going to look at it at the other side of the coin (such as a business looking down on its customers) this theory validates how businesses now use Twitter to get their message across. They do it through numbers. No exaggeration here, businesses and individuals who want to get a message or offer across a vast sea of audience (like how it was in the past) now have figured out how to buy Twitter followers. This way they are able to make their presence known and continue on making profits for their respective business.
